The Juicy Reviews

Waddup peeps! Miss Juicy’s here and I want to tell you about a little known band that if you ain’t listening to them and traipsing around Sugar City to catch them live and in full effect (like me), you ought to be! I am talking about the Lights Out band out of Sandy Point. Now, mind you, I first came upon them accidentally. It was at the Sandy Point High School Sports Day – 23rd February, 2007. Why I was there is another story altogether, but let me tell you I was there for this band’s beginning and I feel I will follow them through their promising career. Yes! They made that good of an impression on their official launch. (PICTURE OF LAUNCH)

They launched just outside the Sports Day venue near the main road. Eight young members – an all but typical bunch of 16 year olds – played for a massive and hyped up crowd. I knew from looking around that they were off to a good start. My fellow crowd members were all impressed with the youths and man, we had a good time and a sweet lime. So, that’s why when I heard the Lights Out band would be playing at Bobsy’s Bar & Grill at Frigate Bay on April 24th, I knew I had to be there to make sure it wasn’t all the snow cones I had at Sports Day making me think Toucan Band was reincarnated in these youths. I know, I know, people. Hold your horses, people! It’s a compliment. Miss Juicy ain’t trying to offend nobody. (PICTURE AT BOBSY’S)
Well, at Bobsy’s the Lights Out band showed they deserved every last one of my previous accolades. At Bobsy’s they stirred up a nice groove through the crowd showing their versatility by playing reggae, R&B, soca and zouk to much our delight. Ain’t nothing like some Shadow’s “You looking for horn” to get older folks in full jig. A little Burning Flame’s “Workie” don’t hurt either. These young ones know how to read their audience and deliver. Even the tourists got into the sweet groove Lights Out laid down for us. Nice! I tell you, nice! You weren’t there, you surely missed out!
Now, don’t get me wrong. Not every pan knock Missy Juicy there, but let me say if Lights Out going to be there, Miss Juicy will as well. That’s why when my favorite upcoming band – Bab, Dabo, Krissy, Isty, Devbo, Stickle, K.T. and Revi – was scheduled to play at Pam Headquarters on May Day, guess where I was? Lights Out held their own among other respected acts as D’Vybz Band, Small Axe band and Sweet Sister Sensia just two weeks after they impressed another huge crowd at the Pumpkin in Newton Ground while playing alongside Small Axe Band. This band is truly on the up and up. My name all over their sponsor sheet, as you can well tell! Ha hah hah! Miss Juicy couldn’t resist.
No surprise Lights Out band secured a gig alongside Small Axe Band, Nu Vybes band and Grandmasters band on Friday 22nd June 2007 at Independence Square for the St. Kitts Music Festival Front Stage launch party. (PICTURE AT THE SQUARE) Another mammoth crowd was dazzled by the young band. Mind you, it’s not just their covers of other artists that keeps you feeling nice but their own material like the popular “Turn off the lights” and “ I’m sorry” that put a slow swish and a low dip in the hips. Heh heh. Miss Juicy knows true sweetness and you know I don’t spill it in one drop. So until my next installment, keep your eyes, ears and body attuned to the sweet rhythm, sweet rhymes, sweet vocals and the sweet vibes of the Lights Out band.
